The start of the new baseball card season is nearly here. 2022 Topps Baseball Series 1 comes out soon, but is an interesting release not just because it’s the first 2022 product. While the product is created by Topps employees, its the first flagship release under the Fanatics umbrella.
Topps Baseball Series 1 releases on February 16, 2022. It will have a hobby and retail component, hitting stores with a much-needed excitement for collectors.
The biggest highlight of Series 1 is the release of Wander Franco’s rookie card. Or is it? There’s a fiery debate within the hobby right now if Franco’s first RC was in 2021 Bowman’s Best or if it will be 2022 Topps Baseball. Read more about the controversy here.
There will be at least 14 different parallels for the base set ranging from the traditional Gold down to a new 1/1 Platinum parallel.

- Diamond Greats Die-Cuts
- Welcome to the Show
- Turnin’ Two
- Flashiest Feet
- Salute to the Mick
- 1987 Topps Baseball
Of course, there will be autographs and relic cards included as well.
Topps is also continuing its Silver Pack promotion. One Silver Pack will be included in every Hobby Box and two packs will be in every Jumbo Box. This promotion was initially created as way to get collectors into hobby stores, but over the years the packs were not being used for their intended purposes by some. To combat that, Topps has inserted the cards directly into boxes.
