Chipper Jones’ career may be over

Chipper Jones has this sneaky way of popping into our hobby breaks. I think Marie has had this problem was than mine recently, considering he also showed up as a jersey card in her 2003 Flair break at the National.

There is this beautiful love/hate relationship with the guy. For a guy that always seems to show up, he’s not a bad one, but it’s still maddening that he is always there.

It’s being reported today that Chipper Jones has torn his ACL, which is pretty sad. Jones was likely going to retire at the end of the season and deflected any of that attention to Bobby Cox who is in his last year.

His rookie season started the same way. Same knee. Same (likely) surgery.

For a guy like him, whose has been in this game as long as he has and has his accomplishments, I wished he could have gone out on his own terms.

He has had some fun cards:
1991 Bowman #569 RC
1991 O-Pee-Chee #333 RC

But everyone’s favorite (pictured)
1992 Bowman

  1. Well, he had a good run. Even though the Braves are a divisional rival, I always respected the guy. He'll be missed.

  2. As a lifelong Braves fan, I hate to see it happen like this, but he has a ring, an MVP award, is among the top 5 switch hitters of all time AND top 5 @ his position of all time. He'll have a plaque in Cooperstown in 5 years.
